To get access to other users&#8217; files, you have to add explicit permissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the Finder main menu, select <em>Go &gt; Computer<\/em> or press <code>Command-Shift-C<\/code>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Double-click your Mac&#8217;s partition (usually named <em>Macintosh HD<\/em>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Double-click the <em>Users<\/em> folder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Double-click the user folder you want to access (in the image below, <em>test<\/em>). All folders you currently don&#8217;t have access to are marked with a red icon. Trying to open one of those folders shows an error dialog.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2064\" height=\"1096\" src=\"https:\/\/desairem.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/finder-access-other-users-files-home-directory.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5301\" style=\"width:1032px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"522\" height=\"418\" src=\"https:\/\/desairem.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/finder-access-other-users-files-error.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5298\" style=\"width:261px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the folder you want to access, then in the Finder main menu select <em>File &gt; Get Info<\/em> or press <code>Command-I<\/code>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the Lock icon in the lower right corner of the <em>Get Info<\/em> dialog, then authenticate yourself by using Touch ID or entering your password.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the + button in the lower left corner, then select your name in the sheet that appears, and finally click on Select.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"938\" height=\"1910\" src=\"https:\/\/desairem.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/finder-access-other-users-files-add-user.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5300\" style=\"width:469px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<li>(Optional) The selected user has read-only access by default. To be able to write to the folder, click on the <em>Read only<\/em> popup button beside the added username and select <em>Read &amp; Write<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"754\" height=\"1910\" src=\"https:\/\/desairem.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/finder-access-other-users-files-info-panel.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5299\" style=\"width:377px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<li>Close the <em>Get Info<\/em> dialog by clicking the red title bar button or pressing <code>Command-W<\/code>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat steps 5-8 for every other folder you want to access.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By default, other users&#8217; files cannot be accessed, not even by an administrator.
