The default Size mode is Size on Disk: each file is shown by its physical size. This means that cloud files, including iCloud Drive files, that are not downloaded locally are not displayed. On the other hand, changing the Size mode to Size shows each file by its virtual size: not downloaded files are displayed by the size they have in the cloud.
