Export and import settings

The settings (including sync items, sync groups and sync schedules) can be exported to a file with the .json extension and imported again on the same Mac or a different Mac. You can use this feature when you plan to copy or transfer the sync items to a new SyncTime installation.

  1. Run all the syncs to make sure that they are up to date.
  2. Export the settings.
  3. Import the settings on the target Mac.

Export

To export the settings, select Export settings from the File menu or the main window context menu. You are then prompted where you want to save the settings file.

Import

To import the settings from a previously exported file, select Import settings from the File menu or the main window context menu.

When importing the settings to an existing SyncTime installation, existing sync items and sync groups are not replaced. If you want to replace the existing settings, you have to remove them first.

After the import, the source and destination directories will appear as unavailable even if the corresponding volume is connected. In a sandboxed app (including all apps downloaded from the App Store) a file or directory cannot be accessed until selected by the user with the system open panel. When running the sync item for the first time after the import, the open panel is shown, already pointing to the correct directories, so that you can confirm them and they can be accessed again.
